Knotes looks like it added much needed decent discussion forum.
'knotes provides thorough implementations for two important kinds of user activity which have been weaknesses of Plone, which we call 'discussability' and 'blogability'. A beta version is now available the GPL open-source license. KnowNet?? has been using knotes in several of our community portals for over a year now, and is actively completing features and shaking out bugs in response to real end-users' experiences.'

Blogging:
I dont think hosting individual blogs as members will prolly have their own already or can easily use elgg.net, blogger etc. It's a personal thing. Would be one more thing to manage.
However we do want community growing features such as encouraging 'user' pages on OATSoft with links to sites, blogs etc.
A single community blog and anyone who registers can post would be good. Should be fed into aggregator. http://www.planetplanet.org/ or http://plone.org/products/cmfsin but bound to be zillions
