Hotspots is a point and click tool for switch users which can be used in a number of different ways.

· To set up instant scanned mouse positions on the screen so that they can be access by a switch user.

· To automatically  open pre-created sets of mouse spots on the screen when a named program or window is opened.

· To create sequences of spots that are called by name from other spots.

Hotspots gives switch users access to mouse driven (point and click) applications.

Designers can use Hotspots to develop spot sets for any Windows application; switch users can then make mouse clicks (and other actions) in the application via these spot sets.

Designers can produce sets of spots (hotspot files) by running the target application and placing spots at each point where the user may wish to generate a mouse action, such as left click.  When Hotspots is running, the mouse cursor moves (scans) from one spot to the next, under control of the user.  When the switch user selects a spot by pressing a switch, a mouse click (or other action) is generated at that position exactly as if the mouse button had been pressed. In this way switch users can control the application without having to find a way of steering the mouse pointer around the screen.

What can you use Hotspots with?

Suitable applications are those where the user interacts using mouse clicks at fixed screen (window) locations , for example, multimedia books, some My World screens, and virtual machines (CD-Players, calculators). In many applications, a user mouse click changes the screen layout, for example, turning a page in a Talking Book.  Hotspots allows one set of spots to load another spot set.  Typically, a book will have a spot set for each page.  To summarise, any 'point and click', drag etc. program may be used as usual, its normal functioning will not be affected.

When Hotspots is in run mode, it can monitor the active application and  window title, and compare it with a list of links.  If the application is in this list, and the window title (caption) matches the one given in the list, Hotspots can automatically load and run the linked spot set. Setting up linked sets is straight forward.
