OATS at Open Source Conference
OATS project was presented at the FLOSSIE 2005 conference at Bolton Technical Innovation Centre.
The FLOSSIE conference is about using Free and Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) in education, organised by SchoolForge. OATS, as a project to do with Open Source and Special Educational Needs (SEN) has a great deal of relevance to this group.
OATS was well recieved as a way of using the benefits of open source software (innovation, customisation, strong user ethos etc...) within the Assistive Technology field.
The rest of the conference dealt with the implementation of Open Source within schools with some excellent examples of using Linux etc to provide effective Information Communications Technology (ICT) for pupils. This included presentations from best-practice schools, IBM, Sun, OpenOffice and Moodle.
