User Scenarios

People who use Assistive Technology Software may need to use it in lots of different ways and places.

Education

Inclusion is still a big part of government policy (LINKS) although special schools still remain an important part of the provision of education to people with Special Educational Needs. Inclusion guarantee's the rights of students to access the curriculum and overcome barriers to this. What are those barriers? Perhaps they are barriers to communication, writing, access….

In futher education the same rights exist however, maybe the educational load, volume and intensity increases and disadvantages become magnified.

Work

The unemployment rate for people with disabilities is high. Why? Are people disabled by their environment? As well as people with life long (congenital) problems, consider users who may develop conditions that required them to use assistive technology (e.g. RSI, MS, MND….). Pressures of a workplace mean that the technology needs to seemlessly integrate.

Home

Home environments are different from school and work - there is no technical support (although you can't rely on that at schools or workplaces either!). A motivated family member or carer may help support a user, but this can't be guaranteed - software needs to work out of the box.
